Bambouskova receives NIH grant for research on treatment of IκBζ-related autoimmune diseases

Monika Bambouskova, assistant professor of medicine at the School of Medicine, received a two-year $275,000 grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for research titled “Dissecting interplay between electrophilic stress and IkBz-driven inflammation.”

Monika Bambouskova, PhD

Dysregulation of the transcription factor IκBζ is associated with human autoimmune conditions. We discovered that IκBζ can be selectively regulated by stress response induced by specific class of electrophilic compounds/metabolites. Our objective is to characterize the molecular basis of the regulation of IκBζ by electrophiles to uncover novel therapeutic strategies for treatment of IκBζ-related autoimmune diseases.
