First author Jasim publishes review on interventional techniques in thyroid lesions

Sina Jasim, MD, MPH

On April 28, first author Sina Jasim, MD, MPH and collaborators published a clinical review titled “American Association of Clinical Endocrinology Disease State Clinical Review: The Clinical Utility of Minimally Invasive Interventional Procedures in the Management of Benign and Malignant Thyroid Lesions,” in “Endocrine Practice.”

The review consisted of a literary search using PubMed to assess multiple publications on minimally invasive thyroid techniques. With the purpose of providing clinicians with “a summary of the nonsurgical, minimally invasive approaches to managing thyroid nodules/malignancy, including their indications, efficacy, side effects, and outcomes.”

Jasim and collaborators conclude that surgery and radioiodine are the conventional and established treatments for nodular goiters that have remained. They also state that the new image-guided minimally invasive approaches appear to be safe and effective alternatives for the treatment of symptomatic or enlarged thyroid masses.
