McGill, Silverstein, and Jasim publish new Washington Manual on endocrinology

In March, Janet B. McGill, MD, MA, FACE, FACP; Julie M. Silverstein, MD; and Sina Jasim, MD, MPH, of WashU Medicine’s Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Lipid Research, published the fifth edition of The Washington Manual Endocrinology Subspecialty Consult.

This edition comprises 38 updated chapters written by fellows and faculty members from medicine and surgical specialties. The volume is part of the renowned Washington Manual® series and provides concise, practical guidance for the diagnosis and management of endocrine and metabolic disorders across clinical settings. 

This Endocrine Subspecialty Consult manual has been updated to reflect current standards in endocrine care, including expanded content on diabetes technologies and revised treatment strategies for a wide range of conditions. Structured for clarity and clinical efficiency, the manual is designed to support internal medicine residents and endocrinology fellows in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care.

Dr. Janet B. McGill, Professor of Medicine, is a nationally recognized expert in diabetes care and clinical research with more than 30 years of experience in the field. She has led numerous major clinical trials and published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. As editor of the manual, Dr. McGill’s extensive expertise is reflected throughout, ensuring that it serves as an invaluable resource for both new and seasoned clinicians. As a long-time faculty member at WashU, Dr. McGill has received many honors, including the Outstanding Physician Clinician in Diabetes Award from the American Diabetes Association and the Master of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology distinction. 


Julie M Silverstein, MD
Julie M. Silverstein, MD

Dr. Julie M. Silverstein, Professor of Medicine and Neurological Surgery, is Director of the Pituitary Center and Clinical Trials Unit. She specializes in the care of patients with pituitary and neuroendocrine disorders, including Cushing’s disease, acromegaly, prolactinomas, non-functioning pituitary adenomas, and hypopituitarism. In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr. Silverstein plays a key role in advancing research on the medical and perioperative management of these complex conditions and has been published in several peer-reviewed journals. She also leads clinical trials aimed at improving treatment outcomes for pituitary disorders, diabetes, and other endocrine conditions. Her work has significantly contributed to the advancement of both clinical care and research in the field. 


Sina Jasim, MD, MPH
Sina Jasim, MD

Dr. Sina Jasim, Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of Endocrine Neoplasia Services, specializes in thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, adrenal tumors, endocrine tumor syndromes, and minimally invasive techniques for treating thyroid nodules, such as radiofrequency ablation. Dr. Jasim is the former Editor-in-Chief of AACE Clinical Case Reports and actively contributes to the development of national clinical guidelines. She also leads research focused on improving outcomes for patients with endocrine cancers. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field, she was named the 2023 AACE Rising Star in Endocrinology by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology.
