On April 24, Sina Jasim, MD, MPH and colleagues had their review titled, “American Association of Clinical Endocrinology (AACE) Disease State Clinical Review Evaluation and Management of Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor-Mediated Endocrinopathies: A Practical Case-Based Clinical Approach” published in “Endocrine Practice.”
The case-based clinical review is meant to “provide a practical approach for clinicians regarding the management of patients with immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-mediated endocrinopathies.”
Jasim and collaborators utilized PubMed, Embase and Scopus to perform a literary search on the discussions and strategies surrounding the management of ICI-mediated endocrinopathies.
Based on their findings, they concluded with an emphasis on “the need for a high index of clinical suspicion by all clinicians caring for these patients including endocrinologists, oncologists, primary care providers, and emergency department physicians.” They also recommend that “patients on ICI-therapy be evaluated and treated in a multidisciplinary team in collaboration with endocrinologists.”
