Representing at ENDO 2024

The ENDO 2024 symposia, hosted by the Endocrine Society, welcomed endocrinology professionals from across the country while offering a wide variety of programs for attendees to learn about the latest field developments. Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Lipid Research fellows Priyanka Kesavan Chary, MD; Doriann Klaassen, MD; and Rutu Shah, MD attended and contributed at the event, which took place in Boston, MA from June 1-4.

During the symposia, Dr. Kesavan Chary delivered three poster presentations titled: A Rare Case of IgG4-Related Hypophysitis, A Challenging Case of Hypercortisolism in an Adult Patient With McCune Albright Syndrome, and Development of Type 1 Diabetes and Primary Adrenal Insufficiency Secondary to Immunotherapy Treatment for Chordoma in a Patient With Hypopituitarism.

ENDO 2024 was a fantastic experience. We had the opportunity to gain insight into a multitude of advances being made around the world every day, and find ways to incorporate them into our daily clinical practice. It was also genuinely exciting to see such a large group of people passionate about Endocrinology all in one place!

Dr. Doriann Klaassen receives the Outstanding Abstract Award.

In attendance, Dr. Klaassen was recognized by receiving the Outstanding Abstract Award for her abstract titled, Randomized Trial of Post-operative Fluid Restriction to Decrease Incidence of Delayed Hyponatremia and Readmission Following Transsphenoidal Surgery.

Dr. Klaassen also presented the results of work by Dr. Julie Silverstein‘s research team on a large, randomized and prospective long-term trial encompassing three-hundred patients evaluating fluid restriction after transsphenoidal surgery for pituitary lesions.

“Presenting our research at ENDO 2024 while representing WashU was a great experience. Dr. Silverstein was a great mentor and helped me to prepare.”

Doriann Klaassen, MD

The results confirm published retrospective studies showing that postoperative fluid restriction decreases the incidence of severe delayed hyponatremia after pituitary surgery and readmission for hyponatremia.

I am thrilled to be able to share results of our study which definitively confirm what others have shown in retrospective studies and meta-analysis. Based on our results, our Pituitary Center has implemented a post operative fluid restriction protocol for all patients undergoing pituitary surgery and I believe our findings will lead to the standardization of a postoperative fluid protocol at other centers across the world.

Dr. Rutu Shah standing next to her poster presentation at ENDO 2024.

Dr. Shah contributed at ENDO 2024 with insightful work featured in the poster abstract session, titled Bilateral Adrenal Hemorrhage Unveiling Adrenal Metastases in a Patient with Retroperitoneal Sarcoma.

With extensive interest in all aspects of endocrinology, Dr. Shah is passionate about continuously furthering her learning and the development of her expertise in the field.

My experience at Endo 2024 was incredible and truly broadened my perspective. There were some remarkable talks by leading experts in the field of endocrinology, and it was very inspiring to see such exceptional work presented by people from across the globe.
